Celebrating Life's Special Moments -- Featuring KL Couture

I've been working with Kyria Lowenstark for a couple of months now, and I sense her drive and determination to make this Second Life business work and not only work to make it exceptional and worthy of high praise. Any business succeeds or fails based on use of energy.

3. [Mirror's Enigma]: Sapphire Tan Skintone
4. Kyxe Skins and Shapes: Tangy Orange Gloss
5. Chop Zuey: Tabula Rasa Set
6. N-Core: Caprice
7. Manifeste Poses

This long strapless gown with a high slit certainly teases the eye with flesh yet remains formally elegant at the same time. I've style an array of items by KL Couture, each one unique in its own way, and this one, with the simple lines and texturing, might be my new favorite from her collection.

7. Manifeste Poses

Who is the lady who might wear KL Couture's Ingrid gown? She's sophisticated, knows what she likes and goes after it. She's prowling her territory, searching for the best, the most, the highest... no matter what her basic passion is, she seeks it at it's finest.

6. N-Core: Caprice
7. Manifeste Poses

She feels at home in New York City but could just as easily find a niche in any city around the world. New challenges feed her need to explore, try new things, and travel. She dresses eloquently and when she speaks, those around her have learned they should listen.

No matter where you meet her, you'll feel like she's been there forever as she's so at peace with her surroundings. The world is her oyster and in every nook and cranny, she's determined to find pearls. When you join her, you know your world changes, and it changes in the very best of ways.

Out Of This World -- Featuring blackLiquid

I've seen a lot of variety in Second Life. I used to be very attached to a fella who had a non-human avatar fetish. He wore his human avatar to every event and every location I ever saw him travel, however, he had the craziest inventory ever.

He'd show them off to a few people, then they'd just be a part of his collection. I don't know that I ever understood his passion but I liked him a lot, and if it made him happy, I was happy. I think two or three times in all the time I've been in Second Life, I've worn a non-human avi.

I must clarify on a side note that I did have my Neko phase in Second Life, and the accoutrements that went with this playful hybrid character. Because nearly everyone I knew at the time had done the Neko thing at one time or another, I really never thought it was thinking outside the box.

This fantastic costume piece comes from blackLiquid and left me utterly speechless. The moment I put it on, I knew exactly how I wanted to photograph it. I wandered Second Life a bit, to find futuristic in a way I'd never seen before, on a sim I'd never visited, so it really was out of this world.

I even did a 'motion test' on this avi, to see how it moved when posed and when dancing. A lot of avatar items I've seen were great if the person wearing it was still, but the moment they began to move, it wasn't so great. When I danced, the whole array of pieces moved fluidly and made sense to me.

I had such fun with this new item from blackLiquid. I hope you do as well.

Home Sweet Home - Featuring A.F.I Designs, Luziefee, Hairoin and Tresor

There's a saying - Your Home Is Where Your Heart Is - and I think it's an interesting bit of truth, especially since many of us have created virtual world homes that mean as much if not more to those who've done so, and in essence their whole life exists in text and pixels and connecting people.

5. RYCA: Gold Box Earrings and Necklace

I really never was keen on the idea of a personal home. I have owned two very small homes along my SL journey, both of which fit on a 512x512 parcel. This was the size the Lindens offered rent free for members who joined when I joined.

Even way back when SL was much smaller as far as land mass would take you, and the few groups that gathered like-minded people, I enjoyed those few locations more than I ever did the 512x512 piece. I needed to feel people's energy, highs and lows, and be a part of something bigger than myself.

5. RYCA: Gold Box Earrings and Necklace

I've shared more of my heart and soul in my Second Life than with many who would know me from my life offline. Due to circumstances I do not control, it's very rare for me to travel to visit family, to go 'home' for the holidays or attend special events like weddings and graduations.

Maybe that's why I really need this world we share. I've met others, many many others, who also deal with health issues and have their world and their home at their fingertips. I'm not special in that regard, just one of many who learned how to distract myself in a computer so I did not dwell on the less fortunate details.

There was a time when people online would see another person stressing out about some activity in their online world and in text, the one person would tell the other to 'GET A LIFE'. It was meant as an insult, to their intelligence, to their ability to actively accomplish something off line, and to imply all sorts of rudeness.

Times have changed in that regard. Many people make this world their life for many reasons. Who am I to judge when a person can or cannot function in society that's beyond the virtual world where I know them? If I judge harshly, I should be prepared to be judged harshly. I prefer to accept what I see and hear until such a time may come where I learn it wasn't real or truthful.

I've heard the phrase a number of times in my many explorations. Some things I've done were for the pure fun of it, role-play and all sorts of imaginative things. They resembled things I'd done as a younger woman, like Dungeons and Dragons, only pixelated and more intense.

I've made this my life. THIS thing I do, this thing I enjoy, and these people I get to work with here. In a new Cleo gown from A.F.I Designs, only available at BOSL Renaissance Galleria paired with stiletto boots, Lysa by Luziefee or wearing a new princess-ish gown from Tresor called Zuri's Elegance and brand new hair from Hairoin called Blair I'm right at home, where my heart is, enjoying the life I've created for myself, It's my life, and I know I make the most and best of it.

It's Getting Better All the Time -- Featuring Luziefee, Hairoin, {{BSD Design Studio}}, and [[Masoom]]

I sometimes wonder how things could get any better than they are at any given moment and then I live just a little longer, meet a few more people, get to share my ideas and dreams with special new friends and I realize that there can be no limit to how good something can get because it can get better all the time.

It just does. Of course the mundane parts of life stick around. No matter how many times I do laundry in my lifetime, there will be another load to do soon. It's not those moments that I'm thinking of though. The details in life get more and more precious. It's almost immeasurable.

I put on this amazing gown by Luziefee, the Jordis in pastel, and pulled on the brilliant pink version of Fashion Show First Row heels from {{BSD Design Studio}} and fairly danced around this garden. I twirled and smiled and felt the beautiful recklessness of the moment.

There's not a cloud in the sky literally or figuratively. I could borrow trouble, or dwell on issues from the past, but I prefer to embrace the beautiful. I travel around Second Life looking for lovely places to take photos and this Zen garden here helps me make my point today.

Of all the years I've been here, 8+ or so, I've only run into a rare few whom I could not interact with well, and in those cases, I just walked in a new direction. I learned that focusing on the negatives in life keep us stuck in the past and make it nearly impossible to go forward.

If I could give a smidge of advice, I'd suggest that no matter what memories you have eating away at your mind from your past, the sooner you can let them go, the sooner your life can go forward and begin getting better. Find the bluest sky, the most elegant gown like Veera from [[Masoom]] that will show at Avenue's Fashion Week, the setting you feel most safe and most loved...

Then actively choose to live in that moment. It's so much healthier. As good things happen around you and you make a point to SEE those good things, more and more will become visible. Light will become contagious, and the energy you feel and share and are makes you brighter and full of joy.

I've made my share of errors. I do so online. I do so offline. I work hard to manage my actions and attitude so that on those occasions when I do miss the mark, I have the character needed to go back to whomever or whatever went wrong and make it right. I wish that for you also. It's so much healthier than carrying around the weight of errors, the guilt you might feel, and darkness surrounding you.

I don't have a magic wand or a crystal ball. I don't fabricate the world around me. I just live in it. Even when it's not such a great health day, there's something in it worth celebrating. I just have to find it. And when I'm looking, always looking, I know that it's getting better all the time.

The Fabulous and Fantastic -- Featuring Evolve, Chop Zuey, Hairoin, {{BSD Design Studio}}, Dot-Be Fashion, and blackLiquid

As I continue to work within the fashion industry, I'm also working in an ever evolving Second Life platform that provides new opportunities regularly. Since I began playing in 2005, a lot has changed, so much so that I could probably not list all of those changes.

7. Candy Nail: Chidori Gold

Depending on who you ask, these changes have been for the better (or worse) and each time one comes along, a whole plethora of time must be set aside to learn about whatever that new thing is, how to apply it to my Second Life or yours, and what value it will offer once I learn it.

I designed clothes in the Stone Age of Second Life. My first big hurdle to learn related to flexi. Everyone around me were adding flexi items to their clothing, and some more successfully than others. There are still some flexi items that look and work wonderfully well and others that never did.

Other changes occurred as a result of varied legal questions. Gambling became illegal and changed the entire face of the grid. There was once a teen grid, to encourage kids to play in sections where they were not exposed too soon to the craziness of our world and now we have General, Moderate and Adult.

Just as some of the new techniques befuddled me and made me take a step back from design, so also has it affected many peers. Some people caught on to the sculpting program and mesh as well, and others could not and businesses closed. It seems that those who are most flexible have the best chance at making their SL business long term.

Now that I approach Second Life from the vantage point of a model, I look at change differently. Ever eager to discover new ideas, to be the first to wear, the first to try defines many of my peers in this business and me as well. I'm not as afraid of change, or learning new tricks as I once was.

Instead, I embrace all that's tossed out when I've been given a chance to work with various people. My newest sponsor - blackLiquid - gives me a whole new perspective on makeup in Second Life (This Is Autumn). I miss Face Paint, and I enjoy trying new things now that it's closed its doors. Each time I receive a pair of shoes from {{BSD Design Studio}}, I know it's one of a kind mesh design and something created with love and passion. I love wearing the fashionable couture from Evolve (Paisley Me) and Dot-Be Fashion (Gemma Gown) and finding all the fun ways to use the many splendid hair designs from Hairoin. Chop Zuey, as well as other designers who put out free items for their group members have and always will help me manage a budget. I think I've changed as Second Life has changed, and I don't regret a minute of it.

The 'Bride' Challenge
-- A blue wedding dress is traditional for Russian brides. It's also unique to point out that a bride must wear two dresses for her wedding. One she wears for the ceremony and the second she wears after the ceremony ends and she's officially married.

The lavish wedding with all the pomp and circumstance only happened to the wealthy and usually that meant nobility.

If you were not a part of the that elite group, the process was much simpler. This is true for those who wedded in many countries including Russia and my own USA.

A new dress or gown came at great expense and the finances were needed for sustenance not fine clothing. That meant that many women simply wore their best dress or a neighbor or friend would loan a dress.

Many modern weddings in Russia include portions of what might be considered traditional, and since the wall between East and West Berlin fell in 1989, the influence of their Western neighbors influenced Russian weddings (and every other sector of life.)

I love history and wanted to choose a location special to me with regard to history. I want to attempt each challenge the Miss Virtual World candidates attempt.

I chose Russia because I was a Russian History major. I love the unimaginably vast amount of information about the land that was once called the USSR.

I'm adopted, and I have no idea about my genetic heritage. Somewhere along the way, I decided I was at least partially Russian. Though it wasn't based on any real evidence, it's something I've said since I was a child.

I'll be a little sister model, trying everything those big sisters do, in my own way. I think I'll learn from it and enjoy it as well.
As far as I understand this first challenge, the Misses were responsible for putting together a wedding dress look. They were supposed to use items in their inventory and only shop if they needed a few accessories.

1. I began with a gorgeous blue gown from Evolve. It's a relatively modern strapless gown that swishes slightly when I walk and makes me think of moving water.
2. I put on a great pair of N-Core shoes, the newest release as far as I know, called Sublime. It lets me take the basic shoe and add all sorts of texture change. Both silver and gold are 'good luck' for a Russian bride. These shoes have both.
3. I know I can go to my Chop Zuey folder and find something for every single occasion. I save everything she shares, male or female, and make a small budget for buying jewelry there as well. The set I used today for this gown are the JW Mirror of the Soul Men's Set.
4. I then searched my earrings folder which has a whole wild array of items I've been fortunate to acquire via blogging. The B&A Earrings reflected the beads from the bracelet and necklace and a similar gold tone as well.
5. I combined a series of items for the makeup seen here. First, I've been wearing 95% [Mirror's Enigma] skins. Ydreece Forester creates new skins every so often and every single time she's sent me the newest, it's better than the last.
6. To accent the Azuka Light Skintone from [Mirror's Enigma], I added a darker lip from the set of Kyxe Skin & Shapes pack, Face Paint Black Eyeliner and Face Paint Pop Tart Blue.
7. I found myself amused at the 'Diva' show that everyone talked about today and found a pair of Diva Blue nails from Candy Nail that worked with the dress.
8. I don't think it's possible to go wrong with hair from Bliss. The Amanita hair adorned with Osmose Blanc rose both made me feel delicate and female and ready for such a big day.
9. I own two designers' eyes. The ones shown in these photos are IKON Sunrise Eyes in Steel Blue Pale.
10. Last but not least, I had to choose a pair of poses for some good photos and found two from Manifeste worked wonderfully.

I'll be here for the next challenge, attempting to recreate someone special from Opera. Until then, I'll return my blog to it's normal patterns and appreciate you all supporting it!

You Work Hard For the Money -- Featuring Liv-Glam, Hairoin, blackLiquid,

It's a catchy phrase that was blasted across the airways in the 80's by Donna Summer. "She works hard for the money so you better treat her right." I know many people thought the sexual revolution in the US occurred many decades earlier, with the Suffragettes, and earning the right to vote. But there was more.

Long after women were permitted to vote, it was still unusual for them to work outside the home. In our current age, that seems so foreign but just a little time past in our history, it was very different. Both my grandmothers worked. One was a full time nurse. The other was a part time teacher.

The choices they made to work were not easy. In many cases, the fact that women joined the work force when they did changed the course of US History and in a bigger picture, world history for now and a long time to come. By the time my mother made the choice to work, she was supported and not shunned.

But even with support, the rules were different for women in the work force. Cue up the Donna Summer song. A woman went to work, sometimes in a job where her co-workers were all men, did the same job the men did and yet got paid about 30% less then men.

When the laws of the US began to support women's needs for fair pay and other similar controversy, there were people of both genders on either side of the coin, pointing out how wrong (or how right) the laws were and how needed or how much they wasted time.

I think it took a lot of diligence to push past each of these hurdles. I also think that while there were some who argued for and others who argued against the whole concept of women in the public sphere working, they each had some rational arguments and some that were irrational. I see both sides.

Even when women won the right to work, won the right to vote, and won the right to do many things that men had been doing for ages, they still faced adversity. Sometimes it was of a very personal nature, other times it was public. 'Women are too emotional,' they'd say.

I think when you put the word "too" in that sentence, that's where the problem lies. Women are emotional. Men are also. Women can deal with emotion differently then men do and when they are involved, they often bring new perspective to old problems and have helped in many work arenas.

When I have a chance to work with brilliant women in Second Life, I love it. I know that each of the designers I represent and some who are simply great friends work hard for the money. I don't know who's at home with them, treating them right, but I hope they feel some sense of accomplishment.

I don't know how many hours a week Ms. B from blackLiquid or Samantha from Liv-Glam... Elke from Hairoin or Zzoiee from Zanze... put in to making their product viable, and beyond that, wonderful and useful too. Each devote a part of their soul to make it work though, because whether you see it or not, each tiny pixel is someone's brilliant creation and beautiful art. We support them when we buy from them. They work hard for the money and I do hope they're treated right.

What a Difference a Day Makes -- Featuring [[Masoom]], Hairoin, {{BSD Design Studio}} and Luziefee

It's really quite amazing how time works for us humans. We can each experience the same 24 hours and yet have such different things happen that your 24 hours may have seemed to last forever and mine flew by...

I've heard several friends share a difficult family issue or personal issue this week and I was thinking what a difference a day would make. In a day, a doctor can decide you're ready to head home after having your tonsils removed.

Overnight, news might come that means the difference between life and death. Just wait, the next 24 hours are crucial. If he makes it through the night, then his odds improve incredibly that he'll come through this. What a long 24 hours that feels like!

There's definitely an edge of competitiveness encouraged in the fashion industry in our Second Life. It likely mirror's much the same that occurs in our first life, but we're not as plugged in there so we can only surmise. In the spirit of competition, sometimes we wait for news we want so badly to hear.

Yet when someone appears, with the news we've awaited, we're not so sure we want to hear it. Acceptance letters to college... who won Season 10 So You Think You Can Dance... who made it to the next level as a surgeon or an athlete. We pour our hearts into things, and then we finally hear.

When I finally hear news and it's not what I hoped to hear, that period of time after feels empty. It's as if there was a possibility that I did not exist in any concrete world. I get lost in my head. I relive the moments, replay the choices, review and review and analyze. I lose track of time in the aftermath.

I'm not sure it always makes sense to me. I try to make sense out of everything around me, and as it comes at me, sometimes I'm juggling too much data at once and my whole 'me' breaks down. I really do need empty time, crash time, rejuvenate and renew time.

Your dreams and my dreams may have little in common except that they're our dreams. When we eagerly wait for news and we realize that there are such serious situations in our world, sometimes we laugh nervously, wondering if we're making too much of something when all this seriousness surrounds us.

Our world is filled to the rim with daily things. We're not trite when we focus on the details that make us smile. We're human. I'm well aware that my past 24 hours has been mostly amazing, and someone else's may have been traumatic with lots of unanswered questions. I do prioritize.

Life happens too quickly and escapes us just as quickly for us to get bogged down in the quagmire of ultra-serious all the time. I give myself permission to have fun, to want for little things and dream for big ones. It really doesn't matter where you are in life, the saying remains true, "What a difference a day makes."

I had fun styling a very casual outfit today. Luzifee's Nancy top and pants come separately and there are a number of colors. With the snazzy {{BSD Design Studio}} special heels from Couturier's Dock, I spiced up the casual with that bold red. Elenora, a gown shown here from [[Masoom]] offers a set of jewelry with it as well as unique flattering little bits of gold off the shoulder that made me think of hundred's of late summer's end fireflies lighting my evening.

Every Now and Then I See... a New Me -- Featuring blackLiquid, A.F.I Designs, Pure Poison, White Widow, and Liv-Glam

Every now and then, I see a new me. It continues to happen. At first, I thought it was just what I would do when I was in modeling school or working with a new mentor. People critiqued my look often. Some made suggestions while others insisted. I continue to desire to be flexible and work with anyone who's also willing to work with me, so I'd edit me.

I still listen to those I respect in the business. I have gone to get specific skins because a designer would like their photos taken with that skin for my blog. If I'm taken seriously as a blogger, than I repay that with all earnestness for my sponsor, whoever it may be. I don't even mind being something fantastical from time to time, like a fairy or an elf.

A tweak here and a tug there never seem like much. Then I go back and I look at my avi from a month ago or three months ago, and though they always seem similar, I can tell what changes I've made along my journey.

A day or so ago, I saw a lady post in one of the modeling groups a "HELP! I don't recognize me, what do I do?" petition. She'd been to a class or an event where change was encouraged and she'd changed so many elements, she was lost and didn't know herself at all.

Carrie Bridger at Carrie's Lingerie was the first to comment on my shape, about how tiny I was, and suggested I stretch. She found a good price on Marketplace for a couple of shapes and I chose one of those. It was leaner and taller. I went from 5'3 to about 5'7. This was a major change for me!

The next time someone worked with me on shape occurred at Face Paint. I was new, not even placed yet in their contest, just doing some practice store modeling while the contest was in progress. Eve Express gave me a 'basic model' shape then encouraged me to take it and edit it and make it feel like me. I wasn't sure what felt like me, but I was more than willing to do as she said, and I edited it.

About three months later, I'd been working with Face Paint during the passage of that time, and Eve set an appointment for me to meet the amazing Ponchituti for a private-ish shape lesson and work on the shape I already had been tweaking. Ms. Ponch gave me a few key pointers that have helped ever since. She said, "Always make a copy of the now you and save it. Then adjust yourself s-l-o-w-l-y.

Rather than making huge changes, she suggested 2 or 3 points on the slider option built in to creating SL shapes. She said that if I did more than that each time I worked on it, I would send everything pelmel into catastrophe. Sound advice too, because it did help prevent me from that overwhelming sense of "Who am I?"

Later, I bid on personal time with Mr. Frolic. I was enamored by this man and when he wanted to 'take my shape and tweak it some' I was more than eager to comply. He sent me back an updated version of Caryn, but it was by no means finished. He said I would have more work to do when I attended a modeling class. I had already known I wanted to attend Miss Virtual World Modeling Academy.

When the time came, and I did attend the Shape Class portion of MVWMA, I spent an official hour with Ms. Kay Fairey and then later, she worked with me one on one to help me understand the tweaks and changes she'd recommended. I worked on minute details with her and that again was priceless.

I've never had that "Oh no! Where did I go?" reaction to shape editing. I have a short, a tall, a curvaceous, a thin (for mesh) and several other versions of the same me, because regardless what I edit otherwise, I keep the face the same. Though I thought I'd get to a point where I thought I was 'done', I realize now that I was not, nor would I ever be really done with my shape.

I visited Couturier's Docks this morning and found an array of items I thought would accessorize the amazing new Flower Power dress from A.F.I Designs. The Chen hair from blackLiquid paired with Pure Poison's Silver Tomnia jewelry and fantastic eye art from White Widow seemed like they were all from the same puzzle and all I had to do was put it together.

For the Liv-Glam look, I got the dress from the 24 Event. Because I worked for Liv-Glam for a number of months, I know various versions of a dress appear all around the grid at special locations as well as at least one being for sale in the flagship store. I continue to keep all of my Liv-Glam items that include clothing, shoes, jewelry and so much more. When I blog something from Liv-Glam, I try to accessorize with Liv-Glam products.
