Defining Beauty -- Featuring Carrie's Lingerie, FINESMITH, [GoS] and KMADD

I was talking recently with a friend regarding the adjective BEAUTIFUL. The old addage, 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder' makes a lot of sense, and beauty comes in many outward visuals but also comes in many inward traits. I work with fashion and I firmly believe every person who makes a fashion choice has something in mind, their own personal definition of what's beautiful and what will enhance it, in every common and every uncommon possibility.
Beauty and being beautiful only work, in my opinion, if the person first manifests beautiful personality traits. Once I've acknowledged their value, I can look at the fine tuning of nature (or pixels) and find beautiful attributes in an person's outward appearance. I also think beauty might be the thing many strive for, but the emphasis in our current society skips the internal beauty and markets the external.
What do you find beautiful? Who? Are there people you've come across in Second Life that have done wild and crazy things with the sliders to create an avi from a planet you've never heard of, and made you go hmmm? What about people in your world off line who put that crazy purple plaid jacket over a pair of leggings that were NOT designed to be pants, and then wore this outfit to your place of business, and made you go hmmm? Are there common traits we all agree exemplify beauty? And those that do not qualify? I think so.
This morning, I listened to the excitement and looked at some photos of a friend who's goal for the day was to turn in a contest card. Many contests began using photos as a first round means of choosing the most - stylish - beautiful - able to represent the brand - and those photos are important. The photos were just lovely and I smiled and wished her good fortune. How do the judges know what is or isn't beautiful? It's something I've been pondering for a while now, and from different angles. I love the beauty in each of you, and it shines.

Thank you for your support designers. Without each of you, this would not be possible:

Guess What?? -- Featuring - A Z U L -, FINESMITH and Truth

Guess what... Guess what... GUESS WHAT??? I find myself truly privileged to blog for a designer I've admired for years, long years before I ever modeled or knew a thing about fashion. Thank you Mami Jewell and -AZUL- for the great joy that this brings me. I hope that one voice from the southern belle from South Carolina will encourage others to discover you for the first time or for the 999th.
Black tends to be a color I see everywhere I go in our shared Second Life. I understand the concept. It's easy to wear. It's dark and sinister. It's club wear. It's formal wear. Black goes with everything. But, when I walk into a room filled with people, my eyes naturally gravitate to the people who choose bright colors, zany patterns and prints, and creative design.
The Tangerine version of the gown Lucy from -AZUL- appeals to that need for bright colors. The quirky headpiece from FINESMITH that's a bit like Bonsai to me (my father's hobby all the years of the life I shared with him) with a sexy twist. If he could read that now, wouldn't he chuckle. Bonsai with a sexy twist. Only Karyn/Caryn would say that! The jewelry, also from FINESMITH, had it's own artistry to it, love birds sitting on a branch together.
Bringing the world outside, the natural, the super natural, and creating art, wearable art, well that's just beautiful. I spend a lot of time indoors, being a good patient (hard headed, grumpy, disagreeable, you know... good, right?), so I think I'm even more thrilled with artistic pieces that do imitate nature and all it's magnificence. Maybe you'll find a new way to look at those pieces, and discover a new reason to love -AZUL- and FINESMITH. I hope so.

What a joy each of these designers are, and without them, I could not do this, so thank you:

Merry-Go-Round -- Featuring h.m.a.e.m. and Asset

Life reminds me of a Merry-Go-Round. It spins us in circles and it brings us to the same points over and over again. Just like the ride, it's repetitive, yet it's also fun. I'm not quite sure how that works in a moment of logical analysis, but it does work and I feel it. Today, I ran into a friend whom I met right at the beginning of my blogging my world. It was wonderful to see where she'd been, what she'd done and where she was going. It was also special to share my own jots and tittles (and no that really isn't a naughty word!!)
I thought of it as a challenge, 2 years ago. And today? Yep, still a challenge. It makes me happy. To wear clothing like this 'Afreak' jacket from h.m.a.e.m. and the lingerie 'Malorie' below it. To find a new hair designer trying to establish their brand >Asset< and know the title of the hair 'Wanderer' probably suits all of us some of the time. I'm glad I get to live and relive moments that are special with special people and get from point A to point B even if they're the same point a year later, or two or ten years. It's just another way to take a journey.

All that I do happens because of wonderful sponsors like the designers represented here:

Finery at FINESMITH - Clothing, Accessories, Jewelry and {{BSD Design Studio}}

I love the beauty of FINESMITH.
Every time I think I've seen the depth of her imagination, she creates new things, for jewelry as well as clothing.
This array of items, the head piece called FINESMITH Blossom Blue, the dress called FINESMITH Spirit In Black and the bracelets called Nola Bracelets in Silver all show the skill she has.
I added a pair of My Destiny heels from BSD Design studio. And with a few accessories from favorite designers my look is complete.

Connecting To Good (Often Patient) Friends -- Featuring Sky for Fashion Art Fair, {{BSD}}, >Asset<, and Kyxe

It's so difficult taking care of me sometimes. I know everyone feels this way now and then. Why do I have to eat a real meal? Why do I have to go to bed by a certain hour? When I was a child, I knew that despite my childish wishes, there was a grown-up who would enforce the proper choices. Now I have to be the adult. Yuch! Sometimes I miss details and get frustrated with myself. I write things down but forget where I wrote them, or say something then forget that I said it. I hear one son's call and by the time the father asks about the call, I can't recall a single thing he said.
It's like this online and off line. I'd do anything for anyone, on most days, and really WANT to help. I'm fairly sure the people closest to me know I'm just a bit of a ditz, and I mean well, even when I forget. Tonight I forgot a moment in time I'd promised Kay Weston at Image Essentials. She's putting a few poses sets together for the Fashion Art Fair.
I happened to then cross paths with Sky Summerwind who was preparing items for the Fashion Art Fair as well. She took several photos for her vendor photo, and I was so excited to be in it. I used 2 of her photos and cropped them, then used one of my own, to show you her overalls. You'll also see a new hair designer is in town >Asset< and this is the first time I wore anything from this designer. Brand new glasses from {{BSD Design Studio}} and some fantastic new makeup and eyebrow tats from Kyxe Skins & Shapes rounds out this fun display.
More details will come from the event in May, so watch this space. Sorry to my good friend Kay and thank you to the sweetheart designer Sky. Both of you mean a lot to me and I'm glad you tolerate my space cadet moments and let me fit into your fashion world and fun world nonetheless.

My blog would not be successful without the support of these wonderful content creators:

Through the Eyes Of Others -- Featuring {{BSD}} from Cosmetics Fair, RD Style and Curves 4 Her from DOPE Fashion Week, and EMO-tions

About once every 10 or so outfits I style, I do so with the darkest skin option at Kyxe Skins & Shapes. I know that many models, and probably many SL-ers in general choose one skin, one skintone, and find themselves settled into that identity. I completely understand that. I was 5'3", slim, tanned skin, and red hair for a long time in SL, and I made my own clothes.
The reason I change tones, and it's not only to the Walnut darkest tone or Alabaster lightest gone, makes a difference to me in a way I would not have predicted when I first began to do so. I feel like I tap into different parts of my spirit, my interests, my understanding of the world around me and maybe for a moment, I have a glimpse into lives and cultures other than my own. I do much the same with hair color as well. I've eased a long way from an exact preference, and the freedom to mold and morph my 'me' into so many varieties fulfills me.
I love the diversity of the world around me, and not just the world in my backyard. I have met people from Australia, South Africa, Italy and Ireland. I've heard their accents, embraced their point of view and absorb it like it's a sweet treat and I wouldn't get enough if I tried a new bite every day. All of us find our life journey taking a path that we create. Our now, our current culture and technical breakthroughs make it possible to see the life journey of others as well, through mixed media, through email, voice conferences at work or home, and in that, we really do get to view a hundred or a thousand other life journeys besides our own and learn something from that exposure.
Kin used to mean the people in your immediate circle. Family lived within 20 miles of one another all their lives. I think it's great that now, my kin live all over the world, and I can see things through their lives occasionally. I might over simplify, with the whole styling concept, but it's neat to me. I don't think I'd cross over and try being male, but I also work hard to avoid the word never. For now, I enjoy the vast diversity of exposure, and experience, and appreciate Kyxe Skins & Shapes for making this little exercise that's meaningful to my life possible.

I find great joy in styling and this blog would not be possible without these contributors:

Come With Me -- Featuring Carrie's Lingerie, {{BSD Design Studio}}, and Truth

Sometimes I just feel differently when I put together outfits for this little thing I love. I step away from the photos when they don't feel right, sometimes even redoing a whole set if I peek the next day and they still don't feel right. Sometimes I adore them instantly. I want to rush over to find a friend to share before I even crop the photo or edit with a frame. I don't know what it is that zings through me during those times. I just feel for a little minute what it's like to be beautiful.
Yes, I know it's pixels and we can be anything and anything we don't like about our first life gets cut on the virtual avatar floor, til we shed all of those things and enhance the ones we like most, and voila. For me, it's a little bit more.
We all have our own heart's burdens. Some struggle with finding work, others with raising children, and still others with health. To all of us, Second Life gives us a place to be whole, to feel whole, to play whole. And for just a little while, we can drop down those heavy burdens.
I hope that you feel different at least some of the time you visit our shared virtual world. I hope it allows you a moment, or an hour or a day, to drop your heavy burdens and forget them for a while. I know I cannot escape them totally. I'm an adult and realize problems don't magically disappear. I also know that any distraction from them gives time to heal, and we all need that from time to time.
This set of photos includes Carrie's Lingerie, my favorite lingerie designer, two of her designs actually. I got Octopussy recently from Chop Zuey's Animals Speak Collection.I used new hair from Truth, and wanted to show the fades option and the roots option, which gives a total of three options when you get hair there and more dimension when you wear it. A lovely pair of heels in two styles from {{BSD Design Studio}} help complete both outfits. Come with me, into my world of imagination.

By the Sea -- Featuring G Field, {{BSD Design Studio}}, EMO-tions and blackLiquid

If I could choose where on Earth I'd like to live, it would be near an ocean. It wouldn't have to necessarily be a home in the US as there are magnanimous choices around the world and many of them far more beautiful than our own Atlantic and Pacific options.
Every few blogs, I find myself near water or in it, enjoying the essence of waves, and imagining those early years of parenting where I began driving out to the dunes in May and kept returning til Mid September. I miss those days, and the beauty of the beach.
This layout of items helped put me in that mindset, something sweet, young and innocent, perfect for that chilly but I have to be at the ocean type visit. Somewhere on that overlook, you'd find a chilled bottle of wine, cheese, a baguette and a blanket to spread for the quiet picnic.
I found Tranquil Haven Park, and as part of one of the new Flickr groups I joined, I'm going to put one of these photos in so others can 'See More of SL'. I wore new hair and jewelry from EMO-tions, released last week and this week. There's new heels from BSD Design Studio. And the top and skirt come from a designer I had not known prior to this blog, G Field. Travel with me as I see the world around us and embrace the artistry of content creators from every background.

Only through the support of the following designers would this blog be possible, my deepest thanks!

Life's Tapestry -- Featuring Liv-Glam, *Les Petits Details*, BAOBA, Chop Zuey, Truth, and KaTink

I've done a composite photo, with two smaller photos added, as this is a composite styling that includes designers from all over the place supporting events of all kinds in Second Life. From Couturier's Docks, *Les Petits Details* offers Judith boots. At L'Accessories, you will find this spring welcoming hat from BAOBA.
If you take time to see who's invested time and craft into DOPE Fashion Week, you'd find this new mini from Liv-Glam - Waking Up In Vegas (sounds fun doesn't it!?). KaTink has new releases out that include the pose set Chasing Butterflies and the Backgrounds Pack Soft Blooms both of which are part of a charity drive called the EB Charity Event. Chop Zuey created a whole array of beads in Easter colors and gave them away last weekend to her group.
And last but surely not least, I have a special thank you to the one who sent me a gift card for Truth; I enjoyed the process of narrowing down ideas, til I found a style that suited me and the essence of this time of year, frolicking with butterflies. The more exposure I have to a diverse and free spirited group of designers, content creators, people who love and live a life of joy and value in Second Life, the more I embrace and treasure my experiences. We're all bits of fabric on a massive life tapestry.

The following designers offered an array of frolicking fun and helped create this look:

On the Go -- From DOPE Fashion Week -vibe-, [CA], and From the Cosmetics Fair blackLiquid

I went over to Image Essentials Props and Poses early in the day or late in the night. Which one is it, if it's 2 a.m. but you haven't slept yet? I love going over there because Kay Weston set out to create a whole sim suited to photography and art, and put her touch on so many little mini-settings. I go over there from time to time just to see what's new.
When I pan back on a shot, it's because I just feel the energy and warmth of a place I visit, and want to show more than just a girl in a dress and leggins. There's something special about tapping into one another's imaginations. I get to dip into hers, and when I put on designs from people around the grid, I get to dip into theirs as well.
DOPE Fashion week is now at it's midway point. I've showed a few items and have a few more I hope to get out before it ends this weekend. It's great because its for Urban Wear and it's a theme I don't do a lot with otherwise. When I get a few pieces, from those who are participating, I've had fun pushing the envelope, and pushing myself just a smidge as well.
I don't think any of us would enjoy life if we found ourselves living in a rut. I cannot stand boredom. I think it's a cardinal sin, if there is such thing as a cardinal sin. The moment I even think I'm in a rut, I'm rushing around in my head to find something fresh, some new direction, and of course, always a new way to touch the world around me as much as it has touched me.

I am grateful to the designers who are represented here for their contribution to this style:

Setting Goals and Reaching Them -- Featuring *Living Imagination*, **Feel** and Pink Acid from DOPE Fashion Week

Winning and accolades come randomly. I really didn't know I was entered in a contest during the SAVIAD Spring Fair. I felt so honored to be included, it was a sense of acceptance, and a feeling of growing up into this image of myself that I wanted to be some 2 years ago when I began this leg of my life's journey in fashion and modeling in Second Life.
I had a specific idea where I wanted to go, and worked at it diligently. I knew that everything takes time, and steps are small at first, and then you learn to run. By the time I was recognized by the team at SAVIAD along with two other amazing bloggers, I found myself right where I wanted to be, and such a sense of wonder and comfort simultaneously for getting there.
I've received a few items to blog since SAVIAD ended, including this amazing dress - Silent Flowers - from Living Imagination. The privilege to work with the designers who participate in Couturier's Dock makes me smile. It's a culmination of so many specific decisions and activities. There were Linden involved in the win, but that has never been a goal of mine, nor will it. I just wanted to find my niche in this world, an acceptance that tells me what I do has value to others, helps in some way, and fills a need. It's a process, a determination, and so when I found myself here, putting together the style for Living Imagination, I just exhaled with delight at the opportunity.
I know that in many ways, I've only begun to grow, and know there is so much more to know. Life is like that. By the time we get to a goal, there's a new destination just off on the horizon, beckoning us to come, and we listen to that far off voice and know that it's just a process. One step. Another.

I thank those who contribute to my world, the designers who make this blog possible:

Deeply Felt Gratitude -- Featuring Silken Moon and Maxi Gossamer, Also from DOPE Fashion Week RJB Jewelry

One of my all time favorite builder/creator continues to manage several sims and add items to them from time to time. I have no idea how she created all that's for sale in her world, but if you've never visited the properties of Julia Hathor, you really should. I go back there month after month, for different seasons, different reasons, always to find another beautiful nook to pose, and enjoy the surroundings. The only down side is that you cannot run scripts. I often use a complicated but useful face light for photos, so I have to set it at home, then port over and take my pictures.
I met a designer from Robin's Jewelry Box, (RJB Jewelry) who's entered some of her pieces in DOPE Fashion Week. She had me over to her personal property, and showed me a whole array of things she'd made. Some were pieces originally crafted for friends and now being sold to any who'd find it interesting. Other pieces she created for the sake of having her own jewelry store. I was particularly fascinated by the chain (on my throat, bracelet and anklet) as she explained she'd had commissioned the link for a special someone. Getting to meet new people in this wide world of fashion remains one of my favorite parts of this thing I do, and I was glad I got to meet her. She told me while I was there, "You're the first blogger I've ever met." I shared with her a few things about me, and about how I've seen different designers make use of the blogger, and hopefully we helped one another out in the sharing.
Malicia Py sent me a little set of feisty fun pieces that are all black and all a little on the "be careful I'm dangerous" side of things. I love this. It's easy for me, and maybe anyone, to get into routines, a specific style that suits me, and I trip easily into those styles and don't think twice. I need to think, to be stimulated, to be encouraged. I played with the details and still have a few things of hers to share. There never seems to be enough time to show all that I want to share, but I hope you see the tidbits of value and creative design through my eyes and realize how wonderfully diverse and interesting these people are whom I have the privilege to work.
This world of fashion and play helps my physical world more than most realize, and makes a difference in a positive way. All of you, every friend, every fellow model, every designer, those who just poke me to say hello, all of you make a difference and in the cacophony of music that is your voices, your touch, your part in my world, I'm healthier and more stable than I'd ever be were you all absent. In case I haven't said it lately, I'm grateful. For the details. For each of you. I'm grateful.

Nothing I do would work without the support of designers, sponsors who make my blog possible:

Are You Imagineering? -- Featuring from DOPE Fashion Week "B.I.P.", Maxi Gossamer, and Kyxe Skins & Shapes

It's rare for me to wear a swimsuit. I haven't been to a beach party in I don't know how long. When I was new to the virtual world, pool and beach parties occurred non-stop, along with all sorts of other ways to celebrate and make sure people wore the clothes you wanted, "Best in Beachwear" or "Best in Blue" didn't matter, just a whole lotta strangers, and a few Linden to make it worth the time, even if you didn't meet a someone special in the process.
I work at a much different point of view within SL now and those sorts of parties feel so far away in the distant recesses of my history. It's weird how 8 years has the ability to feel like a lifetime. Many things have evolved. The very look of SL certainly has. These photos, with the waves, and the water's reflection, and the high quality sculpted pieces used to make the props as well as the buildings in the background all accentuate how much they have.
At Disney, they call almost all of the artists on staff, from the artists who work on the movies, to the ones who create elements for the Magic Kingdom and Disney's other properties and investments, Imagineers. I like the notion of an Imagineer at work, always trying to imagine more and bigger and more interesting, and more fun. I don't know how much the people who created SL put into updating and upgrading the experience in their game, their second world, our Second Life.
Maybe it was their responsibility in the past and now they rely on all of us, the avid users, to embrace the tools we're given to create beautiful new experiences. For fashion, that means pushing the edge of all that is 'normal', figuring out how to import the things we love from the world around us, but also finding ways to create worlds that could never exist within our physics.
I believe the only way to overcome some of the frustrating steps that fashion faces, with the eternal lag, is not to continue doing the same things, but find new ways to do things, and new things to do. Each of us can be Imagineers. We have it in us, even the ones who read this and shout, "I don't have a creative bone in my body." I beg to differ. You probably do. You just haven't tapped into something that released it yet. It's there. Find a figment, and figure out how to translate it to the outlet we share in SL. I know you can. We all can be Imagineers.

Nothing I do would be possible without those who Imagineer every item I style:

Monochromatically Beautiful -- Featuring FINESMITH at the Monochromatic Fair

The Monochrome look makes it easy to match things to wear. Pick a favorite color, and then wear it. It doesn't all have to look exactly the same in order to make you chic. Teal, and the Monochrome Fair, inspired this look from FINESMITH. A pretty miniskirt with oodles of oddities take you out of this world. I found it a fantasy look that might fit in a favorite Sci-Fi movie.
Right now, FINESMITH has items all around the grid, some that are singular to the event, some that are limited, some with a good discount. If you drop by the main store, you can find more information.I used some unusual poses from Poseway for this series of photos and tried new angles.
I continue to eagerly press towards more artistry and more beauty expressed by the shots I take and learn a little at a time. I'm just glad there are people like you who are in my world, willing to watch me grow, waiting patiently through each stage. You make it enjoyable for me.

You Are Loved -- Featuring Pichi from Couturier's Docks, Kastle Rock Couture, EMO-tions and Maxi Gossamer

Sometimes the simplest ends up being the most elegant. When I tried on EMO-tions new hair this week, Leena, I found myself feeling like a Southern Belle from another century, ready to ply my charms on the nearest Rhett Butler. The Marlena gown from Kastle Rock Couture also struck me as very simple, sweet and innocent and went well with the upswept coif.
I know this time of year brings celebration to some families, while others with other faith backgrounds enjoy tomorrow as just another lovely Sunday to relax during a weekend. I had friends over the years who celebrated other holidays, but didn't mind the ones that had made their way into the US culture to a point that businesses closed and people had long weekends.
You don't have to agree to a certain religion to enjoy the holiday and wherever you are in our wide world, I do hope you find the day tomorrow filled with good things. To those who celebrate a holiday tomorrow, I wish you happy family time, sharing with loved ones and friends, and whatever traditions you keep each year.
I've done a little bit of this and that through the years. Some of you know that I was a Youth Pastor along my journey, a marriage counselor, and other tangents to being a member of church staff. My personal theology has always been simple. I don't know a lot of doctrine, and it doesn't phase me. I know that people need to know they're loved, unconditionally, and that in this wide, scary world, At least one Southern Belle, in her teenytiny town loves you.

My blog would not exist without your support and that of these amazing designers:

Daft Punk Got Lucky! Can I? -- Featuring [Angels and Demons] from Couturier's Docks, Gold Digger from DOPE Fashion Week

This year, I was introduced to the group Daft Punk via one of the Music Awards shows. I knew the song, "Get Lucky" but didn't know anything about how unique these artists were or how they did not reveal their identities. Sometimes, they look like robots, or perhaps spacemen from the future.
When I got this wonderfully interesting head piece, as soon as I put it on, I felt like I was a floral version of one of the Daft Punk artists. I might stay up all night to get lucky too, while remaining incognito. You can get this headpiece at Couturier's Docks.
DOPE Fashion Week kicks off Monday 21 April and run through the following Saturday 26 April. Gold Digger created the Heart Breaker casual dress, bright lime with black hearts. Wearing this brilliant color certainly attracts attention!
Second Life never leaves us without something to do somewhere, and in fashion, that's ever true. There are events all over the grid, ready to introduce you to a whole array of items and styles. I know working with DOPE, I'll learn a little bit more about urban fashion and that niche of the fashion industry. I hope you do as well as you follow my explorings this next week.

Today's designers include some I've never shared before, and I hope you enjoy as much as I have:

The colors and styles of Kimonos offer something truly different than what I wear in my little tiny corner of the world in South Carolina. I have found myself in awe several times as I got to work with some of the designers who contributed to the JAPAN FAIR 2014.
