I Wanna Be... Featuring Evolve, Hairoin, Zanze and Zibska

When I was young, probably about 4th grade and about 9 years old, I attended some sort of after school program while my mother worked. She was a teacher 30+ years of her life and in her early years she got bus duty and all the 'ick' jobs that seniority avoids. I attended the school where she worked, so I'd wait in this program while she did the last of the day duties.

Most days, this after school program included having a television playing in one corner of the room, with the educational programming that was for elementary age students. First Sesame Street, which has gone on to be aired in so many languages in so many countries since it's inception, took the little children's focus.

I always thought I was older than I really was, so I didn't sit around with those 'children' to watch the first program, but I did make time to sit still when Electric Company came on after it. Morgan Freeman, all those years ago, got his big acting break with a regular character he did on Electric Company.

One Electric Company, they'd take topics that were more complex than Sesame Street and address them at a level that children could understand. One of the topics, even back in the 70s, was the concept of taking care of our home, our land, and being thankful for it, not taking it for granted and never littering. You never know when the litterbug is watching.

When I saw the name of the special outfit on sale this weekend at Evolve, I Wanna Be, a very old song from Electric Company came to mind. "Free to Be You and Me". I think they were hopeful in helping a very segregated world learn to accept one another. I think this song could apply to racial differences as well as religious, sexual preference and so many other things in our current world.

Bruce Heart penned the lyrics, and rather than writing them out here for you to read, I'll just put a link in if you're interested, to look up this song. He died about 6 years ago and has been lovingly mourned by a generation who was impacted by him. Free To Be You and Me.

Thirty years later, I still think of the things in that song. And when I consider the world of Second Life, and all the many options it offers, far beyond any structured reality we knew as children, I really can apply that song liberally. I do want to live in a land where... anything can happen and if you set your heart to it, it usually does.

I Wanna Be... healthy... happy... needed... never alone. My list could go on incessantly. It's a good thing to really look at what we really need from life and what we really want from life on a regular basis, so we can reevaluate, adjust and repair based on life's uncertain curve balls. But at the heart of all of it, those simple things in that beautiful little song says it all.

Whether I'm in a fantasy world, of pink fairies wearing a gorgeous dress, Reese from Zanze, and beautiful new earrings, Zibska Maata, or I'm in a surreal future world that someone's imagined, I'm imagining a world where all those things can be true, and I'm authoring my own dreams. You can see the future in that wild white 'Machine' hair from Hairoin, and you can feel the element of fantasy when you look at Que Bella also from Hairoin.

"...And you and me are free to be you and me." -lyrics by Bruce Heart
