Not Where It Ends... This Is Just a Beginning

There are ways of looking at life where things that are ending really means they are just beginning. I remember finally understanding Algebra, then in the fall, Calculus was required. When I graduated from High School, College began.

I finally reached my goal of graduating from MVWA. I find it exciting, but only the beginning of becoming a polished, recognized and respected model. This new phase takes just as much concentration and as much passion as well. I've been styling for a year now, intentionally beginning blogging so I would have multiple points of view from designers to practice with and ultimately because I simply loved blogging! I look at this new outfit by [[Massoom]] and the great poses from Demise of Flight and I think to myself, what a wonderful gift to be given, the opportunity to represent these creative people. Each time I go to a casting, or enter a contest or anything else related to our fashion world in Second Life, I know I grow and improve. This is just the beginning. Hang on to your hats, its going to be a wild ride!

I Made a Decision

As I worked through the past week, I realized that sometimes there are so many good choices that making a decision becomes difficult. I think we cycle through hundreds of 'eh' decisions in our day, which could overwhelm, but we also have to say a firm "NO" or a firm "YES" but the choice to do so is harder than it looks.

Face Paint has a great team already and this week I've worked on finding the best blend of people who might fit into the already good team and because of their skills and experience or enthusiasm, many of them are nearly identical, many 'YES' possibilities. It's harder than it looks.

When I prepare an outfit for a blog, I have to sort through multiple 'YES' options, and find the best of the yes to compliment all the other pieces. [[Massoom]]'s creator, Amber has put four sets of poses out for the pose fair. Two are shown here in the photo and two displayed on a previous blog. A model/blogger has to sift through countless potential poses to find the best one or two to suit the outfit. Thankfully, skilled artists like her give us plenty from which to choose. Then Amber provides an array of outfits. Belle at Chop Zuey creates countless sets of jewelry, and Emotions designer Mirja Mills makes hair as diverse as possible and again with so many potential 'YES' designs, still only one fits just right.

Sure, there are easy moments, knowing a shade of yellow simply won't go with a shade of green, or a pose creates a physical impossibility, where it screams an obvious 'NO'. It's all the great 'YES' options, whether screening models or poses or other things, that keep me on the edge of my seat, passionately hoping I discovered the right piece to the puzzle of the moment. And I've just begun to learn. I hope it gets easier with time, but not too easy. Puzzles are exciting, stimulating and wonderful!

All Things True

I often tell a story, an anecdote as I write in my blog. Tonight, I want to talk about my blog. I spoke with someone I respect earnestly today about blogging as it relates to Second Life. I always always learn from this person and today was no different. Some people are just like that in life, and I count it a blessing that I've met people with wisdom in so many facets of my life, not just my Second Life. I'm also grateful for the way special people impact my world, so that even though it's shared in Second Life, it becomes an integral part of Karen's Life.

Because I cover topics that are not directly related to Second Life and I share topics that relate to Second Life that do not always address Second Life Fashion, I'm not exactly a fashion blogger. It makes sense to me and I made a conscious decision the first of January this year to steer my blog in this direction. I have read hundreds of blogs from so many points of view, and only a portion of them were Second Life bloggers. There are super cool bloggers out in our virtual global world talking about so many many things! When I read Second Life bloggers, I began to identify what I liked and what wasn't right for me, and looked back at my own blog and the direction as well as my heart's sense of where I might go with it.

The bloggers who talk to me, as if they were sitting in my living room with me, are the ones I noticed most and remember long after I turn off the computer. After some time and gaining inspiration, and following my own learning curve, I decided I would feel more real and more 'me' if I did this as well. I talk to you, the common you that tunes in to read my words, as if I were talking to you while you sat across from me. I also talk to you in a way that reminds me of a diary entry. Some of the thoughts are very personal, and some simply me, and I love this outlet. Many communicate in much the same way with Facebook and in far fewer words on Twitter. I just use a blog format AND Facebook and Flickr to share. And while I write and share tidbits of my world with you, I also show you things like these two series of poses created by [[Massoom]]'s content creator whom I just began working with this week. Maybe I share two or three pictures a week and maybe I share two or three pictures an hour. It's just me, being me, and offering you a window to my world. To those of you who let me style and share your designs, I love it and your support. I hope it makes a difference in your world, as you have made one in mine.

The Music of the Night

I have utterly romanticized the fantasy of Vampires. I know I'm not the only one, either. Vampires are everywhere in our current fascination and vividly evident because Hollywood spends so much time and money exploiting this interest.

Between True Blood and Twilight and the multiple other similar plot lines from books and scripts, the sexy and sophisticated vampire leaves a mark on our earth, and if we are so lucky, a mark upon our neck as well.

Second Life lets us delve deeper into our own fantasy regarding vampires. Fangs and 'fangbangers', as they're called in True Blood, run rampant. I didn't have to look far for a vampire to catch up with me in this dark forest for a photo op.

Other mythical creatures have their place in Second Life as well, and dragons have been around in some form or another since I joined in March 2005. They've gotten more detailed, more complicated and more unique in the past 8 years.

Fear of these creatures have been a part of stories passed down orally from generation to generation, a healthy fear that teaches each new age to walk warily and know that evil might lurk around any corner or down any dark street.

Whether or not you believe in the actual stories or not, of vampires and dragons catching us poor humans off guard, it matters not. If the creatures only represent the lurking darkness in the world and warn us to be alert, then these stories continue to serve the same purpose they had when they began.

Sometimes, I turn the lens back on myself and wonder if the scariest creature exists inside me. My humanity makes me dark and dangerous at times, to others, to myself, and if all of those fantasy creatures teach us a caution, perhaps the caution also works to remind us to push past our weakness, our angers and jealousies to battle the fiercest creature. Self.
