Quiet... Just a Little Longer

Just when I thought I had everything shifted into a new modus operandi, things change again. I celebrate the graduation of one son from college this coming weekend. The other comes home tomorrow and isn't sure he's going back to college. The world was quiet, for a little while, and it will be, but only a little longer.

As I perched in this tranquil setting, I pondered this loss of peace and return to full time parenting, I was thankful for the refuge that blogging and modeling has given me. I know we all escape into games or television series or Second Life, for a little vacation from reality. Even more so when our reality challenges us. I had a great time working with Baboom!'s newest release and these amazing heels from {{BSD}}. I happened to receive an array of items all at once that looked as if they were designed to make one outfit, and I celebrated. The jewelry  and hair from EMO-tions rounded out the look as I braced for the wave of reality to sweep in close and knock me to the ground. Where's the life vest? I need one nowww...

Mirror Mirror On the Wall

So much of what we do in the fashion industry is subjective. What works for one setting may not even come close to fitting another setting. Opinions run rampant and it can be just as easy to find empty praise as it is to hear destructive criticism. I took a break from preparing for the Face of October semi-finals by doing this collaborative styling. From head to toe, everything in this photo relays someone besides my normal 'me.'

There are two new shapes from Scandelicious, new skin and outfit from Mirror's Enigma and jewelry from {{BSD}}. Sometimes when I look in the mirror, I don't see myself at all, and I think it helps me when I focus intensely to share myself in other settings. All of it helps me grow in this modeling choice I've made for my Second Life.

Stuck in a Moment...

Have you ever felt like you were stuck in a moment that wouldn't end? This can happen in the best of situations and those that are traumatic.

Miss Darcy, Truth, Mirror's Enigma, {{BSD}}, Face Paint and Face Paint Gems

I've heard of people who felt "love at first sight" comment that time stood still as they talked into the early morning hours. Others talk about seconds seeming like hours when they've been in a car accident.

Miss Darcy, Truth, Mirror's Enigma, {{BSD}}, Face Paint and Face Paint Gems

Sometimes being stuck in a moment then feels like the best thing that could ever happen in life. You don't want the moment to end. You cling to it with all your might. Unfortunately we humans cannot really control the passage of time and eventually all good things come to a close.

Miss Darcy, Truth, Mirror's Enigma, {{BSD}}, Face Paint and Face Paint Gems
Brand New from {{BSD}}: earrings and necklace
Brand New from Face Paint and Face Paint Gems

Other times, it feels like life itself is trying to teach a lesson, making us relive situations over and over again till we get it correct. It's difficult to keep giving and giving when our faith in ourselves wanes and the moment of failure goes on and on; but as with good times, difficult times come and go as well. My gramma used to say "This too shall pass."

Celebrate your brightest moments and trust that the difficult ones do not last forever. The universe likes balance and so do we as humans. If we never experienced the lows in life, we would not understand how amazing the highs really are.

The Lazy Sunbather

Those of you who know me know how preposterous it is for me to call myself a lazy sunbather, but I looked up lyrics and found this sad little song about lazy sunbathers and it stuck in my head.

The diversity at *Diamond Style* continues to make me smile. I've been working with them for about a month now and have seen everything from lingerie to fancy gowns to this sexy mesh swimsuit. And I've only begun to know this designer. I know there's more to come. Meanwhile, I did pause for a rare few minutes at a beach on a towel to take this photo. Lazy? For a half second anyway.

Snowpaws New Release Rejouir Gown

Big gowns offer so much pomp and circumstance. When I wear them, I often imagine myself traveling back in time to other eras when the women were dressed in the finest silk and taffeta and other fabrics I've never owned in this life.

Three colors of this gown are available now in the store, Nightfall, Whimsy and Sunrise (shown in picture above). You'll find several layers comprise the skirt with the top layer made of small specks of color that float around you as you walk.

And there is a hair piece also made of the same speckled material. On the top photo, made wearing Sunrise, I inverted the head piece so it became a veil. On the lower photo, I combined two dress colors, the Sunrise top and the Nightfall skirts. You can also see the head piece the way it was designed.

When You Hang Out...

This weekend, I got to hang out with the fellas who've put over two months of effort into planning Mens Wear Fashion Week. The shows I've been to so far have been great, and I know they'll run all week and into the weekend next weekend. It's exciting to me to be able to do something I love and get paid for it. How lucky is that?

The show stages have been unique and special to the theme of the designer, and each fresh look draws attention in a positive way to influence spring sales and support of these businesses in our Second Life. That's Alon next to me and I know he's put enormous time into this special week long event. Thanks for including me!

And when it was time to lay back, "Easy like a Sunday morning..." I kicked back and listened to the water fall at a favorite club. The stunning Fierce Model shoes from {{BSD}} entranced me when I got them and I couldn't wait to wear them. The small clutch came as a gift from the store as well. Otherwise, I'm in a very casual outfit and enjoying the quiet energy of this locale.

Whether I hang out with friends or by the rush of a beautiful waterfall, I have a great time in Second Life, a place where I love to be whole and real and me.

Celebrating 3 Years of BOSL Radio

So many things come and then disappear in our Second Life. It happens for many reasons, and disappoints us for different reasons.

So many things relevant to the fashion industry have felt the touch of Mr. Frolic Mills. Sometimes I think of him affecting fashion houses much like Oprah supporting books in her book club made obscure authors instantly famous. As this celebrated BOSL Radio's 3rd Birthday, it was only right for him to dance on one of the platforms. Alas, no tip jar though.

A selection of DJ's scheduled to keep the crowd entertained began with the special touch by CottonCandy "CC" Teardrop. It's wonderful to see how carefully planned events occur when organized by BOSL, no matter what it is. This party was no different.

A whole array of patrons visited during the time I was in attendance, from the most precious little fuzzy critter Alaya wore...

...to the brilliantly colored Precise in this confection of a gown. Fellas and ladies alike mulled around, chatted, danced and laughed. All the elements of a good party present made it a delectable event for all of the senses.

Happy Birthday BOSL Radio!

It's Not Easy Being Green...

I grew up during a time where network television offered limited programming and every so often, there were specials. Every year, we tuned it to watch Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Mary Poppins and The Muppet Show. Those specials often meant we could stay up later, and enjoy a family night.

My favorite among the specials and shows aimed at young people was the Muppet Show. An entire set comprised of puppets of all shapes and sizes entertained us once a week. Though they were furry monsters with friendly smiles on their face, they had surprisingly human conflicts. In a song written for the famous "Kermit the Frog", Kermit emotes that it's not easy being green. I think maybe a bigger message came through that sweet innocent little tune. It's not easy being different.

In my world off line, I have dealt with physical handicaps all my life. There were times I had tubes still attached when I was sent home from a hospital, and always new scars from surgery. I stood out, in my family, in my immediate group of friends; the song resonated in my head. It's not easy being green. On a side note, when I get to wear beautiful designs in Second Life, from the incredible hair at MADesigns to the beautiful top from ::B:U:B:: as well as the sweet mesh mini from Demise of Flight, I get to be normal. I pulled this look together and smiled.

What Are You Going to Find at Snowpaws This Weekend?

For it to be spring in full and rich color, it certainly is a drizzling cool morning here in my little corner of the world. When it looks like it does outside, I'm extra glad for the chance to shop and have fun in Second Life and that always means a stop by Snowpaws to see all things new.

Sweet Sweet Victory

Like many of you, I spent the day eagerly watching news, waiting to hear when the second suspect has been apprehended. I have prayed for the families affected by the deadly events that unfolded this week in Boston. I will continue to keep them in my thoughts as I know you will also.

Face Paint owns a piece of my heart by now, and continues to make me smile. This past weekend, I saw a great exaggerated eyes commercial on television and loved the look. I went immediately to Google images and found the photo. I never know when Eve will be inspired, but I love sharing suggestions. She really nailed it! A whole array of colors and combinations will be at Face Paint very soon.

If you look closely,  you'll see the image of a rose in the background. Roses are symbols of love, but we all know to be aware of the thorns. With the radical fun outfit I have on from {mv} I contrasted hard leather lines and straps with the softness of the rose. I think balance is important, and when life gets out of balance, it takes a while to retrieve it.

Chantilly Lace and a Pretty Face

I get the most unique array of little things to blog in blogger packs. The other day, I received a special sculpt for the mouth, and when it was worn, it stuck my avi's tongue out to show a gummy bear on my tongue. I love the playful along with the serious fashion. Sometimes I get a whole pack of items designed to match so the consumer doesn't have to work too hard to match shoes and jewelry with the outfits they buy.

Sometimes I want to see what I can do with pieces from multiple sources, but I also want to show you what the designer created when they made a recent release, so I came up with this idea, shown above in the photograph. I can style an outfit with pieces that mix and match, and show versatility, and also show you the original pack. Shadow Moon's Wild Thing Cheetah came with everything all ready to wear. I just played with it a bit and came up with my own interpretation shown also on the right.

I pulled out a pair of beautiful metallic boots made by Mary Jane two years ago. I know most of fashion has to be about 'now', but then sometimes things that repeat themselves in different ways come in and out of fashion. Metallics are all over Spring Fashion Runways in 2013. The unique lingerie  from {mv} mixes mesh top and bottom with system stockings and garter for a sensual and differently shaped bikini. Not everything has to be new. Then again, I don't usually believe in absolutes anyway. I like to find my own instrument and play it wildly.

Demise of Flight and the Image Essentials Sim - Poses for All Sorts of Reasons and Fashion Too

Ever wonder how those great group photos began? Each of the designers I work with on the Image Essentials sim, Kay Weston, Ally Dwyer and Nikki Demariz all create poses, pose sets and props that work with those poses. You can also find poses all over the sim for photo ops in settings that are as diverse as our Second Life.

Demise of Flight is one of the stores on the sim. I got this pose set called Killer Curves and the VaVaVoom Dress from this store. The pose set should work with most dramatic choices for extra large sized breasts or the Lola Tango breasts. The dress is just a lovely mesh piece with a simple subtle color block.

You'll also find these great releases from Demise of Flight. I don't have enough alts to photograph them individually but if you're looking for some great public space or private space poses for groups or couples, try these and others. There are quite a few vendor adds shared here, but if you make the time to scroll through them, you might discover the perfect one for you and your home.

Beauty in Time for Another 55L Sale at Face Paint

This week at Face Paint, a beautiful new girl is in town and she’s only 55L this week. Other colors to come! Is there a guy or girl you’d like to see brought to life? Send Eve Express interesting makeup photos from the real world of glamour, and she just might breathe life into your suggestion. Just copy the picture onto a note card and drop it in Eve’s box in world.

It’s clear to see this sweet girl is no plain Jane. Drop by Face Paint and add this to your Face Paint collection. Remember makeup layers look best when you wear a neutral, clear, clean, nude… all of these words I’ve seen in skin design… so your makeup doesn’t clash with makeup that might otherwise be on you original skin.

Not Where It Ends... This Is Just a Beginning

There are ways of looking at life where things that are ending really means they are just beginning. I remember finally understanding Algebra, then in the fall, Calculus was required. When I graduated from High School, College began.

I finally reached my goal of graduating from MVWA. I find it exciting, but only the beginning of becoming a polished, recognized and respected model. This new phase takes just as much concentration and as much passion as well. I've been styling for a year now, intentionally beginning blogging so I would have multiple points of view from designers to practice with and ultimately because I simply loved blogging! I look at this new outfit by [[Massoom]] and the great poses from Demise of Flight and I think to myself, what a wonderful gift to be given, the opportunity to represent these creative people. Each time I go to a casting, or enter a contest or anything else related to our fashion world in Second Life, I know I grow and improve. This is just the beginning. Hang on to your hats, its going to be a wild ride!

All the Small Things

It's the little things in life that make the difference. Our brains map details like the pixels are a map of color our Second Life paints. You have to zoom in very very close to see each shade and even then our brains cannot really process 16 billion bits of data so we think we see red and blue and yellow.

Some would say the games we play online, including Second Life, are just trifles, things to entertain, things that aren't really important but I have to disagree. I may not be able to see 16 billion color distinctions but I know that if they weren't there, my world would be far more dull. I also know that my Second Life is like those billions of undetectable nuances in color, and all of the experiences I have here do make an impact.

I love the work I do in Second Life. I love the communication between creative people who make such a fantasy world possible and let me peer into their imagination. I might not see or understand the small things, but I know they matter. I appreciate the people who invest time into this shared world in any way that enriches all of us. The designers here, represented in these photographs run the gamut from very very old names - [elika] used to be ETD, and the very new, like Mirror's Enigma, sharing skins and outfits and other things. I adore the long history of Elikapeka, and I also have found a real admiration for someone who may be newer to the world of hair, EMO-tions.  The red lace romper from ~Shadow Moon~ reminded me of Little Red Riding Hood. And Mirror's Enigma skins offer something new and fresh each time I try them. Creativity like that makes my life richer!

Not every item from every designer comes out 'perfect' but if they passionately want to get better and better at their craft, what they make in 2013 will be better than anything they made in 2005. I blog and wear a dynamic array of items from designers with time in world that's longer than my own 8 years, designers who have a flare for the dramatic, designers who are new and eager to learn and need support, and so many others. When you take time to read my blog, you're always going to see a smattering of effort and beauty from designers at all skill levels and experience level. I appreciate it when others give me a chance and I think if I didn't pay it forward and work with others who also want a chance, I would be the one who was disappointed in me.

My Final Final from Miss Virtual World Modeling Academy

What an insane and amazing experience this past year has been, beginning at Face Paint as a new face, eager and so unprepared for this modeling world til now, finally certified officially as a model. I began working in Face Paint approximately 1 year and 1 month ago. I landed in what can only be described as the perfect petri dish for someone who really wanted to become a Second Life model.

I registered for Miss Virtual World's Academy shortly after joining Face Paint but was quite unsure of myself. Seasoned models offered advice that I wasn't ready yet for MVW, and reluctantly I took their advice - something I'm so so glad I did now in retrospect - and enrolled in the classes for the matriculation in August. If you scroll through my history on this blog, you can see comments regarding this big step.

I went through 105 graduation at the end of August and really didn't think I'd graduate. I knew from peers that they really only allowed polished models to graduate and I was just beginning. As I expected, I did not graduate. I went back in November and again in February of 2013. Each time, I learned new things, observed, tried, failed, felt a thousand emotions and at one point after try #3, I was sure I should give up my modeling dream.

The instructors have been here all along, willing to meet between exam weekends, willing to review and help and encourage, and invested in my success. As long as I was driven to succeed, they were willing to help. For this, I am so grateful. I came to see an array of models who'd passed through MVA in the past as assistants and through the nine months, new people joined the group of educators.

Somewhere in the past month, I realized the difference between elegant and pretty, sweet and lovely, and the edgy difference of a model. There was never anything wrong with being that girl next door, or the PTA mom, or other things I'd heard to describe that new model. I never felt insulted; I never felt successful. This fourth 105 exam weekend brought to fruition these many months of work, trial and error, and hopefully sparked something wonderful yet to come.
