I've Been Workin` On the Railroad -- Featuring A.F.I Designs, Luziefee, Kyxe Skins & Shapes, and MADesigns

This morning when I constructed this outfit, I started with the hair from MADesigns, Jo... and built my character around that. I felt like it was the old Engineer, like a train Engineer, hat and suited to me heading to a railway station.

When I found this little train parked at one of Second Life's train stations it made me think of Tweetsie Railroad. For those who do not know of this particular attraction, in the North Carolina mountains a train station became a family vacation destination, something to do while you're in the mountains.

Over the years, a whole theme park built up around it. Primarily designed for young children between 0 and 11 years old, there are many little mini things at the park. I got into this cute little train and didn't quite fit, just like an adult would feel at Tweetsie!

Later this morning, I found another train station on a sim of virtual New York, or I should say 10 SIMS! I was in awe of the place and loved this train that's much closer to natural scale. Unfortunately, it only stopped for about 20 seconds at each stop. I flew around the sim about 3 times to land, get the camera ready and shoot before the train took off again!

I continue to love how big and diverse Second Life has grown. Each time I go out into a place I've never been I get to see the work of incredible content creators. I get to wear some of the best clothes on my journeys as well, like the Boquet dress from A.F.I Designs and Sabine pumps from Luziefee. Live! Laugh! Love!

I sometimes wonder how things could get any better than they are at any given moment and then I live just a little longer, meet a few more people, get to share my ideas and dreams with special new friends and I realize that there can be no limit to how good something can get because it can get better all the time.

It just does. Of course the mundane parts of life stick around. No matter how many times I do laundry in my lifetime, there will be another load to do soon. It's not those moments that I'm thinking of though. The details in life get more and more precious. It's almost immeasurable.

I put on this amazing gown by Luziefee, the Jordis in pastel, and pulled on the brilliant pink version of Fashion Show First Row heels from {{BSD Design Studio}} and fairly danced around this garden. I twirled and smiled and felt the beautiful recklessness of the moment.

There's not a cloud in the sky literally or figuratively. I could borrow trouble, or dwell on issues from the past, but I prefer to embrace the beautiful. I travel around Second Life looking for lovely places to take photos and this Zen garden here helps me make my point today.

Of all the years I've been here, 8+ or so, I've only run into a rare few whom I could not interact with well, and in those cases, I just walked in a new direction. I learned that focusing on the negatives in life keep us stuck in the past and make it nearly impossible to go forward.

I've made my share of errors. I do so online. I do so offline. I work hard to manage my actions and attitude so that on those occasions when I do miss the mark, I have the character needed to go back to whomever or whatever went wrong and make it right. I wish that for you also. It's so much healthier than carrying around the weight of errors, the guilt you might feel, and darkness surrounding you.

Every now and then, I see a new me. It continues to happen. At first, I thought it was just what I would do when I was in modeling school or working with a new mentor. People critiqued my look often. Some made suggestions while others insisted. I continue to desire to be flexible and work with anyone who's also willing to work with me, so I'd edit me.

I still listen to those I respect in the business. I have gone to get specific skins because a designer would like their photos taken with that skin for my blog. If I'm taken seriously as a blogger, than I repay that with all earnestness for my sponsor, whoever it may be. I don't even mind being something fantastical from time to time, like a fairy or an elf.

Carrie Bridger at Carrie's Lingerie was the first to comment on my shape, about how tiny I was, and suggested I stretch. She found a good price on Marketplace for a couple of shapes and I chose one of those. It was leaner and taller. I went from 5'3 to about 5'7. This was a major change for me!

The next time someone worked with me on shape occurred at Face Paint. I was new, not even placed yet in their contest, just doing some practice store modeling while the contest was in progress. Eve Express gave me a 'basic model' shape then encouraged me to take it and edit it and make it feel like me. I wasn't sure what felt like me, but I was more than willing to do as she said, and I edited it.

About three months later, I'd been working with Face Paint during the passage of that time, and Eve set an appointment for me to meet the amazing Ponchituti for a private-ish shape lesson and work on the shape I already had been tweaking. Ms. Ponch gave me a few key pointers that have helped ever since. She said, "Always make a copy of the now you and save it. Then adjust yourself s-l-o-w-l-y.

Rather than making huge changes, she suggested 2 or 3 points on the slider option built in to creating SL shapes. She said that if I did more than that each time I worked on it, I would send everything pelmel into catastrophe. Sound advice too, because it did help prevent me from that overwhelming sense of "Who am I?"

Later, I bid on personal time with Mr. Frolic. I was enamored by this man and when he wanted to 'take my shape and tweak it some' I was more than eager to comply. He sent me back an updated version of Caryn, but it was by no means finished. He said I would have more work to do when I attended a modeling class. I had already known I wanted to attend Miss Virtual World Modeling Academy.

When the time came, and I did attend the Shape Class portion of MVWMA, I spent an official hour with Ms. Kay Fairey and then later, she worked with me one on one to help me understand the tweaks and changes she'd recommended. I worked on minute details with her and that again was priceless.

I've never had that "Oh no! Where did I go?" reaction to shape editing. I have a short, a tall, a curvaceous, a thin (for mesh) and several other versions of the same me, because regardless what I edit otherwise, I keep the face the same. Though I thought I'd get to a point where I thought I was 'done', I realize now that I was not, nor would I ever be really done with my shape.

I visited Couturier's Docks this morning and found an array of items I thought would accessorize the amazing new Flower Power dress from A.F.I Designs. The Chen hair from blackLiquid paired with Pure Poison's Silver Tomnia jewelry and fantastic eye art from White Widow seemed like they were all from the same puzzle and all I had to do was put it together.

For the Liv-Glam look, I got the dress from the 24 Event. Because I worked for Liv-Glam for a number of months, I know various versions of a dress appear all around the grid at special locations as well as at least one being for sale in the flagship store. I continue to keep all of my Liv-Glam items that include clothing, shoes, jewelry and so much more. When I blog something from Liv-Glam, I try to accessorize with Liv-Glam products.

It's easy to get comfortable with a particular style. When I was in my late teens and early twenties, every single article of clothing I owned was black, white or red. And if it were white or red, it was still primarily black.

When I got very close to the special man courting me, his opinion became clear that all the black I wore was depressing and he set out to ease me away from my comfort zone, seeking out colors for the first time. It didn't 'hurt' me at all and it made him smile. I didn't regret adding color in the least.

My Second Life attire has had this solid singular approach to clothing and selection of clothing. Prior to modeling, I either wore R-rated outfits or very ladylike things. Both extremes don't seem to go together but I have always been a lady in public and someone sexy in private.

When I first met Mr. Frolic, I had no real clue about who he was save his reputation. I heard that you either loved him or hated him. I felt sad that there was such a dichotomy of thought on this. One of my first conversations with him came only a few weeks after I began working with Face Paint and his name had come up in conversation with the other models. I knew he engendered many things in others and I wanted to set the tone of our budding relationship in a positive way.

One of my goals was to get certified by the MVWMA. It had a reputation as being one of the best academies on the grid. It only made sense to approach Mr. Frolic for work after I'd passed the basics test that MVWMA had for everyone who passes through their doors, Mr. Frolic's 105.

It took almost a year, and four attempts, for me to reach my goal. It was only then that I approached him with a desire to work for him. I'd finally made it through the course and now was prepared to contact him personally, offering him my willingness to work for him in some capacity.

One of the words he used to describe me many many times - Safe. This doesn't cut it in 105. I've learned through that experience and life in general since I began modeling. Chantilly lace and a pretty face comes easily or at least more easily to me than edgy, fierce and dark.

Today I share a sexy slinky sweet bit of lingerie, September VIP Gift from Carrie's Linger, and a fierce leather outfit, Euphoria by KL Couture. Neither portray the innocent gentle lady. They push my boundaries. I love the opportunity to do so and when I do, I think of all the wise words I've learned from Mr. Frolic and many other leaders, teachers, model friends, who've encouraged my every step.

A little song I learned at camp years ago began with the words, "I'm going crazy, doncha wanna come along..." It's a playful song, full of energy and perfect for camp age kids everywhere. It's also a state of mind that I feel I've manifested in the past few weeks.

When this first happened, it freaked me out a little, to be honest. Now it feels like part of my world. I think anyone with any handicap in our world who has friends, supporters, family on their side have the chance to overcome the handicap. It's not easy but it's possible.

Part of me feels responsible to protect the world from my ditzy-ness. I want to hold up a shield so I don't negatively influence anyone. In a business where I've eagerly sought to be ultra professional, I now feel like I should be extra cautious so my ditzy doesn't drain away any respect I may have earned.

I can't tell you when I'll find 'normal' again. I also don't know if 'normal' is what I want anyway. I like the roller coaster we call life. I embrace the changes as they come and as they go. I work very hard to keep a positive point of view and share it with you.

One thing I control is the way I look at life, lead my life and deal with what life offers, and I truly want to share the silver linings in all ways. Blessings!

A Simpler Life -- Featuring Zanze

I find some of the most beautiful gardens as I traverse Second Life. It doesn't matter who sponsors the land, adding flora only increases the appeal of the property. One of my favorite places to go and daydream continues to operate after many years. At one point I think Julia Hathor had 5 sims. Now I believe she's pared it down to three. Each time I go to one of them, in this case Serenity Falls, I fall in love with the place all over again.

I wore this dress Shauna from Zanze and felt like I fit right in to the flower garden around me. The pattern of this particular Shauna option - called Morning Glory - seemed as if it could be planted into the ground to sprout more and more beauty. It never fails. Zzoiee Zee continuously improves her craft, a sleek and refined beauty with all her heart poured in to every piece, and this dress another example of her fantastic skills.

Chantilly Lace and a Pretty Face

I get the most unique array of little things to blog in blogger packs. The other day, I received a special sculpt for the mouth, and when it was worn, it stuck my avi's tongue out to show a gummy bear on my tongue. I love the playful along with the serious fashion. Sometimes I get a whole pack of items designed to match so the consumer doesn't have to work too hard to match shoes and jewelry with the outfits they buy.

Sometimes I want to see what I can do with pieces from multiple sources, but I also want to show you what the designer created when they made a recent release, so I came up with this idea, shown above in the photograph. I can style an outfit with pieces that mix and match, and show versatility, and also show you the original pack. Shadow Moon's Wild Thing Cheetah came with everything all ready to wear. I just played with it a bit and came up with my own interpretation shown also on the right.

I pulled out a pair of beautiful metallic boots made by Mary Jane two years ago. I know most of fashion has to be about 'now', but then sometimes things that repeat themselves in different ways come in and out of fashion. Metallics are all over Spring Fashion Runways in 2013. The unique lingerie  from {mv} mixes mesh top and bottom with system stockings and garter for a sensual and differently shaped bikini. Not everything has to be new. Then again, I don't usually believe in absolutes anyway. I like to find my own instrument and play it wildly.

My Final Final from Miss Virtual World Modeling Academy

What an insane and amazing experience this past year has been, beginning at Face Paint as a new face, eager and so unprepared for this modeling world til now, finally certified officially as a model. I began working in Face Paint approximately 1 year and 1 month ago. I landed in what can only be described as the perfect petri dish for someone who really wanted to become a Second Life model.

I registered for Miss Virtual World's Academy shortly after joining Face Paint but was quite unsure of myself. Seasoned models offered advice that I wasn't ready yet for MVW, and reluctantly I took their advice - something I'm so so glad I did now in retrospect - and enrolled in the classes for the matriculation in August. If you scroll through my history on this blog, you can see comments regarding this big step.

I went through 105 graduation at the end of August and really didn't think I'd graduate. I knew from peers that they really only allowed polished models to graduate and I was just beginning. As I expected, I did not graduate. I went back in November and again in February of 2013. Each time, I learned new things, observed, tried, failed, felt a thousand emotions and at one point after try #3, I was sure I should give up my modeling dream.

The instructors have been here all along, willing to meet between exam weekends, willing to review and help and encourage, and invested in my success. As long as I was driven to succeed, they were willing to help. For this, I am so grateful. I came to see an array of models who'd passed through MVA in the past as assistants and through the nine months, new people joined the group of educators.

Somewhere in the past month, I realized the difference between elegant and pretty, sweet and lovely, and the edgy difference of a model. There was never anything wrong with being that girl next door, or the PTA mom, or other things I'd heard to describe that new model. I never felt insulted; I never felt successful. This fourth 105 exam weekend brought to fruition these many months of work, trial and error, and hopefully sparked something wonderful yet to come.

Pimp My Valentine Hunt and a Beautiful Cocktail Dress from Snowpaws

It's a rare thing for me to pause and do something in Second Life that does not relate to the fashion world. I love the world I've chosen to follow this past 16 months, from my shear enjoyment of the job I had at Carrie's Lingerie to the work I've done with Face Paint, Liv-Glam and Snowpaws blogs, to the many supportive designers who've given me the privilege to work with their designs.

One thing I did do recently thrilled my heart and kept me smiling for days after the actual event. I officiated an in world wedding with two really sweet friends. I had mentioned to them seriously, though I think at the time they thought me teasing, that when I had the opportunity to photograph a couples prop for blogging, I'd ask for their help.

Saturday I set an appointment with them, and they were happily surprised, and yesterday, I had fun with props and watching that infectious warmth of a new and good relationship as I worked with them. We first did a prop pose set from Possession. They wore fancy clothes and laughed and teased as we worked. (first photograph) 

This tree from Rosengarten, also created for a couple in love (shown in photo 2 and 3), offers more. When they 'sat' in the appropriate pose of the tree, they were animated, and kept kissing... and kissing... and kissing. Two little lovebirds, kissing in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g. First comes the love. Second comes the marriage. Where's the baby in the baby carriage?

Thank you to Loki and his wife Vallanique. You two made this a special memory and demonstrated the use of both Possession's and Rosengarten's hidden hunt treat.

I found a field of flourescent flowers right next to the land I own (that has the Face Paint OUTLET waaay up high in the air above this). I'd never walked over and when I did, I was in that surreal oooh ahhh mode. Snowpaws Marguerite has that delicate flower petal female essence with a peplum around the waist that reminds me of a flower in bloom.

Montagne Noir, Very Sweet Friends and Reindeer Too

This year brought me the most joy of any year I've been online. I explored the fashion world of Second Life and in the process, met some of the most creative, innovative and interesting people I could be blessed to know. One of those people creates beautiful art for the face, and I cherish every step I've taken in this journey that included her. Another of these people creates jewelry that's classy, beautiful, and unique. She invests her heart in her jewelry and now also has a new business with her collectible friends Jewelie and Cutter. I'm so fortunate to model for her and to learn from her. This emerald set seen in the photo, The Margrethe Set in Christmas Emerald, shows just how skilled she is. Every time I've worn her jewelry, I've been in awe of what she can do with tiny prims and beautiful textures. The more I know her and her process related to work and making this jewelry, the more I admire it. If I had one New Year's wish, it would be that newcomers to Second Life find her store, and become patrons, long time members of Second Life visit and see the quality of work she makes, and collectors visit Ends Way. 

The thing is, as I've explored this world, I've had friends who asked questions, took some interest in my explorations and supported me as friends would do, who have never been in the fashion industry. This holiday, I received treats and treasures that brought so many smiles. Smiles. It's an intangible valuable. One of the sweetest girls I know sent me a beautiful gown, and then apologized to me that it might not be 'fancy' enough for the work I do. I shushed her and said that it could be ANYTHING and I'd love it because she took the time to pick something. What a treat. And because of her, I was introduced to Montagne Noir. This gown offers three dimensional prims and pieces that make it come alive. It's a glorious holiday red, and has options that allow me to wear it without the extra holiday pieces so that long after December has passed, I still have a fine gown to use for formal events. That's a clever way for them to market the dress. 

I've worked with Infinity Insanity Moments somewhat by accident at first, because I wanted to know what [I][I][M] meant and what they sold. When I discovered it was short for a name that included insanity, I knew it was a store I'd enjoy, and each time I've blogged an item of theirs, true to form, I've enjoyed. That includes this reindeer and sleigh set. This time of year, on a snow sim where my land is, flying sleighs and reindeers come in handy. Trust me!
