BOSL's International Fashion Week Winds Down -- Featuring -AZUL- from BOSL's International Fashion Week, blackLiquid from The Couturier's Docks and NEW from October's 4Seasons

The Best of Second Life International Fashion Week winds down this weekend but all those fantastic new designs you saw at the various shows have now been put out and on display for you to buy what you loved!
-A Z U L- created this new Ella in Garnet as part of BOSL's Fashion Week, a sexy design that left a lot of skin exposed yet covered the right bits beautifully. A brand new just in time for Halloween group gift is out at October's 4Seasons, Angelina Evil.
A most unique head piece called Banzai from blackLiquid added just a touch of twisted to go with the Evil makeup and the composition made me smile, truly enjoying the chance to style an outfit that is at one moment both elegant and spooky. It's like blending two opposites and it works!

A Bittersweet Memory -- Featuring -AZUL- and -{ZOZ}- from The Month of Games Event (Coming Very Soon!!)

This week has been a challenge for me. In order to put myself out there, from the beginning of my blog until now, I've had to do a lot of learning, growing, trusting that with each new trick or tip I receive and each new client I got to work with, I would naturally and in time grow better at my craft. Sometimes I have so much to share, I have compromised zealous artistry in exchange for beautiful, perhaps simpler pictures so I could do more in a day. It was a conscious choice and in other situations I might have chosen differently. I'm sure other bloggers might have had their own path to walk.

I've never been the type of person to put myself up on a pedastal, to show the world look at me, how great am I, fantastically pumping myself up, even if inside I knew I was nothing to be shared on center stage. There are divas, and people who need that attention and I do understand. Some have even earned the kudos, and to their work, I tilt my head and give credit where it's been earned.

I've also not been the sort of person who puts myself down so that all my favorite inner circle of friends would say, "Oh no Caryn, you're not terrible. You're great at this." and pat me on the head or shoulder and stroke my ego. To me, that feels false and like one fishing for compliments. That too is not my style.

I've tried to be very realistic about my understanding of fashion, worked hard, done my home work, practiced, practiced, practiced (that's why I began blogging in the first place, to practice styling so I'd become a better model eventually). I knew when I was six months old, what I thought was fair expectation of myself, where I needed to work on things, and what I was getting a grasp of, and at a year, and at 18 months, and so forth. I knew when I finally graduated MVWMA, that was a major step. I learned that I liked life behind a camera, figuring out the style, playing barbie and putting together the puzzle of styles that incorporated a lot of designers the most. It's why I put more and more time into my blog.

Then last weekend, I had a company, one of my dream jobs, "When I get better at blogging, I'm going to work for them one day..." a company who'd hired me to blog about six months ago came to me and said they were reorganizing things, and part of that would mean letting some of their current bloggers go and others would be hired. I listened with respect. Ultimately, I've always known that blogging was not meant to be about Caryn, but about the very best for any given business at any given time. I understood this business and it's desire to work with others in this line of work, and I heard clearly what was lacking in my own work and why I no longer fit into the company overall goal and dynamic. Knowing all of this, and keeping it professional did not mean it didn't hurt me and my feelings deeply. I felt like I'd failed myself. I did ARRIVE. I did get hired by that company, and then I un-arrived, because I got in essence a pink slip. I hadn't really ever considered the possibility that we could get fired here. So it's really NOT about Caryn. I really have to professionally make it about the business, each business, each time I come in and share.

I'm going to have some great days, massively creative, artistic, and fun. I'm going to have a lot of medium days, where I'm doing my work, doing what I believe is expected of me, and working my tush off to blog as much as possible to show the world how fantastic this or that thing is. But... this week, I've had to pause and take a deep breath. This thing I love, and I really do love what I do, really could be taken away from me and I hadn't considered that. It's a risk now, to stay, and let someone else say "You're not good enough." That's hard for any of us to hear. You're cut from the team. You're... out.

I really don't need or want this note to be met with that type of reaction that I described a few paragraphs up, where I tell you I'm distressed, disappointed, depressed even, and need a little time to rebalance, and you tell me, as the great friends you are, all the positive little tidbits, and all the reasons you support me, and the great things I know some of you would write. You've supported me in this adventure, from the beginning. You've seen me cheer for the amazing moments. I just need you here too, when the sad moments pop up, and I suppose there are sad moments in ever facet of life. Even the principle dancer who's won 12 Tony awards eventually gets replaced. And I'm far from the principle.

A photo that might suit the MVW 2014 entry

It gave me impetus to change in a direction I had wanted to go as December 2013 passed into memory and 2014 January loomed. I didn't make the change then but the idea was a seed that began to grow after this recent conversation with the one business owner. I withdrew from every business I worked with and changed the focus of my blog to events, sales platforms like Designer Showcase and Couturier's Docks, and find the exposure to multiple designers in this manner gives me new energy, new fuel to try new things, and new focus. I think it will in turn give me new balance, and one of my life's key words is balance. I'm not angry at the decision of the business, to drop me as a blogger, and go in other directions with other different styled bloggers. I didn't argue their decision or plead, Please please keep me. It's not my style and if we are living in a professional world, I would hope that doesn't happen in general in any place I work. I did get sad. The sadness will pass. I really really wanted to work for that business. And for a time, I did. Now, I don't know what will come next. There's a fear that crept in, a fear that somehow I'm going to lose other supporters, and grow backwards. I rarely let fear rule the day.

Today, as I begin July 12, I'm wearing a gorgeous gown from -AZUL-. It's one of those many designers whom I just loved from afar for a long time because I could not afford their designs, and I did not have the skill or time as a blogger in yet to earn their recognition. When AZUL did grant me the privilege of joining their blog team, I cried. The good things always will outweigh the sad moments. And wearing a bridal gown, in July, a hopeful romantic, I thought only of the warm and wonderful things a bride feels, the newness of life, the new things coming next, and it seemed to fit into that melancholy I'd been battling, and finally allowed me to chase away the blues. Yes, I lost an account, a sponsor I really wanted to work with and for, but I've been so blessed and worked with so many incredible people. Even if a few drops of sadness have to be included in this life and this job in this virtual universe, I wouldn't change a thing. The gown - Faith - reminds me of that fresh new life of a bride, and the name, Faith, reminds me that faith must accompany all things we attempt, faith in self, faith in a higher power, faith in friends. It's all part of what makes my world work. I'm glad you're a part of it, each of you. And if you decide tomorrow that I no longer fit your company's needs, I will respond professionally, I will be sad for a time, and then I will get on with this thing we call life, living it to the very best I know how at any given moment. **(One new designer who continues to show up at many events is ZOZ and the nails created for the Candyland theme at The Month of Games is just one more set of nails they've done and they've become my new favorite rising star designer that I believe is going straight to the top!)

Celtic Warrior Princess Diva Extraordinaire... Um... Yeah! -- Featuring -AZUL- and EMO-tions

OMG gorgeous new LIMITED gown from Azul ALERT. This gown called Limited Kay Sapphire has everything you could ask for in a gown by this talented designer.
When I spoke to her about blogging some of her things, I was so in awe of her, and then she said yes and I had those misty eyes. Sometimes life just finds its balance if you work a while, and have a little patience.
Eww patience. It's not my forte, however, it really might be the most necessary thing to possess when you work in Second Life fashion, maybe ever!

With joy and thanks, I used items from the following designers:

Milestones Featuring from Fashion For Life -AZUL-, Morphine, *~Damesfly and {NanTra}; from Designer Showcase Moondance Boutique

Milestones mean something to us because we can look back at a single moment in life and say, "That's when I ..." Though you might think joining the US Navy at 20 would be a milestone where I could look back and say, "That's when I grew up..." it's not really. That's just when someone else was there to take care of a rather foolish young lady who wasn't wise enough to take care of herself. You could consider getting married at 21 would be that aha moment, "That's when I grew up..." It wasn't then either. But a few months after that, after arriving at my duty station in the Navy in Florida, with my new husband, ready to take on the world, I gave birth to my first son, and that's when I began to grow up, because when you have to stop being the child to take care of a child, at least in my case, it nudged me just enough to realize it was time.
Now, they're gone, grown-up-ish. Moved out of the house and on their own. One spends his days getting his new wife to and from work and trying to sleep and then his nights working at Waffle House. The other one is criss crossing the country with a camp called Winshape, sponsored by the Chick-fil-A Empire. Both seem relatively happy. Both are older than my aha moment, when I knew I had passed childhood and debuted onto the stage of grown-up, and both are haplessly trying to find their balance, to discover that moment that will push them into life in a big shove much like what I shared about myself. I see it. I feel it. I know it every time we talk. And delightfully, though at the time I was a bit sad, my son and his wife got married so that leaves me with a new daughter too, who is also discovering her way into adulthood. She's probably the closest of the three, and the youngest.
Milestones mark moments you never forget, even if it's just you living them. In a world like Second Life, most would say, "It's just a game. There are no life lessons there. If you find life lessons there, maybe you need to GET A LIFE." Well I do understand that point of view, but I don't agree with it. Everyone defines their world to the best of the moment and my health and my beautiful but very small cage in this world only looks better sometimes when I immerse myself in my Second LIFE. I do pay attention to milestones here. I count my friendships joyfully. Professionally though, I pour my heart and soul into what I do. I look at each new chance to meet and work with sponsors a real treat, and now and then, those sponsors were dreams of mine, dreams I knew would take a long time to reach fruition.
No, working with this designer or that doesn't seem nearly as looming large as joining the Navy, getting married, or having my first son. Not all milestones in life are huge. Some happen when only you're awake, in the middle of the night, and you smile to yourself, knowing you finally achieved something. When Mami Jewell said that I could blog for her, it was one of those precious moments, a dream moment come true. This series of photos shows one of AZUL's exclusives for Fashion For Life, Naarnisse. Additionally, another new style from *~Damesefly for Fashion For Life was paired with the gown. I pulled a jewelry set from June's Designer Showcase made by Moondance Boutique and the red Mary Janes from SL - Morphine completed the style. I'm so grateful for what I get to do and who I get to work with. I haven't a clue where the next bit aha moment will happen, but I'm loving every moment of this one.

Guess What?? -- Featuring - A Z U L -, FINESMITH and Truth

Guess what... Guess what... GUESS WHAT??? I find myself truly privileged to blog for a designer I've admired for years, long years before I ever modeled or knew a thing about fashion. Thank you Mami Jewell and -AZUL- for the great joy that this brings me. I hope that one voice from the southern belle from South Carolina will encourage others to discover you for the first time or for the 999th.
Black tends to be a color I see everywhere I go in our shared Second Life. I understand the concept. It's easy to wear. It's dark and sinister. It's club wear. It's formal wear. Black goes with everything. But, when I walk into a room filled with people, my eyes naturally gravitate to the people who choose bright colors, zany patterns and prints, and creative design.
The Tangerine version of the gown Lucy from -AZUL- appeals to that need for bright colors. The quirky headpiece from FINESMITH that's a bit like Bonsai to me (my father's hobby all the years of the life I shared with him) with a sexy twist. If he could read that now, wouldn't he chuckle. Bonsai with a sexy twist. Only Karyn/Caryn would say that! The jewelry, also from FINESMITH, had it's own artistry to it, love birds sitting on a branch together.
Bringing the world outside, the natural, the super natural, and creating art, wearable art, well that's just beautiful. I spend a lot of time indoors, being a good patient (hard headed, grumpy, disagreeable, you know... good, right?), so I think I'm even more thrilled with artistic pieces that do imitate nature and all it's magnificence. Maybe you'll find a new way to look at those pieces, and discover a new reason to love -AZUL- and FINESMITH. I hope so.

What a joy each of these designers are, and without them, I could not do this, so thank you:

Abra-Cadabra -- Featuring -AZUL- and [[j'adore]] from Japan Fair (opens today); Also Featuring New at FINESMITH

It's hard to talk about the opportunity to work with a designer like -AZUL- who's been creating masterpieces in Second Life for a long time and who participates in so many events, including an event like JAPAN FAIR 2014. This gown, Claro de Luna in Sapphire, flows elegantly with every step.
I worked with [[j'adore]] poses for the first time, also found at the Japan Fair, which opens today. I haven't ever had a HUD option to wear and a way to use the poses one by one. The HUD is an awesome option for someone who likes to pose EVERYwhere. I enjoyed 'meeting' a new pose maker, new to me...
Another designer who's invested a lot of time into everything Second Life is Finesmith. This set of jewelry had three options. I chose Summer Powder because of the colors.
By the time I finished putting this style together, I was feeling a little sense of power, a dark energy, or is it light. The setting with the black cat and bright blue flora offers a balance. Perhaps I till tap into one or another and create good times and mischief to be had by all!
I did not get enough time to explore this sim, Odessa SciFi Municipal. I took this last photo in a bubble that was floating up in the sky and since I used a night setting, I ended up with lights like the Aurora Borealis. New places to discover out there all the time!
